#TBT | Carnival

One year ago, I had the joy of seeing - for the very first time - a quilt that I designed and made in the pages of a real-life magazine!

My Carnival quilt was included in the November/December 2013 issue of Quilty magazine!  I made this quilt in the spring of 2013 for my niece Avery, who at the time was just a bun in the oven.  After finishing the quilt, I decided on a whim to submit a few pictures of the quilt into the magazine.  I'm pretty sure I was shaking as I read the e-mail telling me that my quilt had been accepted!

So, about that quilt...

Carnival features the traditional Rolling Stone block (less commonly known as Squirrel in a Cage), set with sashing that creates a secondary Churn Dash block.

I especially love the way the black and white Riley Blake chevron print gives the quilt a fun punch.  And I just couldn't resist that grey and red elephant fabric!!  I used my walking foot to quilt a haphazard zig-zag pattern.

My favourite thing about this quilt was the publishing experience.  Next time you create something that you're particularly proud of, I can't encourage you enough to take a stab at getting it published.  There are dozens of great quilting and crafting magazines out there and it's really easy to reach out and pitch a project.  The worst they can say is no, and when they say yes it's pretty freaking awesome!!

Happy Thursday!

  1. Congratulations, that must have been exciting. I love the little elephants, such a fun design. This quilt showcases the fabric really well. I also like the quilting, well done!
